About LCDM

The Laboratory for Computation, Data, and Machine Learning at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a team of faculty, postdocs, and student researchers who work together to develop and apply computational techniques and sophisticated algorithms to expand the applications of data science. Our research includes cosmological data mining, deep learning, text analytics, natural language processing, and business analytics.

LCDM was founded in 2002 at the University of Illinois by Professor Robert J. Brunner (then it was called the Laboratory for Cosmological Data Mining) to use computation in order to extract cosmological information from large astrophysical data sets being generated within the research community. Since then, we have grown into a larger group of people from variety of academic disciplines.

We are one of the top twenty users worldwide of the production of supercomputing resources at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications.
